Silk painting really stole my heart. I started to paint scarves a few years ago with the intention of painting just a few for my family, friends and myself. I loved to watch how the colors blend together. I wanted to know the process better. So I went to NYC for a one day workshop. And that is how I started.
My process:
I use wooden frames made by my husband to stretch the silk. I hand draw the design first with a disappearing pen and then outline it with water soluble resist.
After that I paint and blend colors, let them flow. When I am done painting, I iron it to set the colors in and wash it and iron it again. Length of process depends on the complicity of the design.
Sometimes I use dyes to paint. Then I have to steam the silk for 3hours to set the colors in and then wash it and iron it.
Silk Scarves - they can be a nice accent on your arms or neck
or you can hang them up on the wall of your room as an artwork.
