In March, beneath the awakening skies of New York City, I encountered magnolias in their moment of glory—blossoms suspended between dream and memory, luminous against the lingering breath of winter. Their beauty was so fleeting, so exquisite, that it seemed they were not growing from branches at all, but drifting through the air like petals of light.
This painting is not a portrait of magnolias, but a remembrance of their spirit. Painted in a loose and abstract dance of color, texture, and movement, the blossoms swirl across the canvas as if carried by a spring breeze. They bloom, twirl, and dissolve into one another, untethered by form and free from gravity.
Layers of paint create a tactile landscape that beckons the viewer closer. The petals seem almost within reach—soft, velvety, and alive—inviting not only the eye but the hand. Their presence lingers like a whispered song, celebrating the delicate beauty of a season that arrives briefly, enchants completely, and then slips away.
These magnolias dance between reality and imagination, carrying the joy, wonder, and tenderness I felt standing beneath their flowering canopy.

casting shadows across my face. And to know if they are edible (...)
